Recently, a lot of our customers have started asking about QR Codes. QR is short for ‘Quick Response’ and it is the trademarked name for a type of matrix barcode.
Today, they are commonly used as marketing tools whereby someone can scan the code directly from product packaging using their smartphone and be taken directly to content including: product website, instructions, promotional videos, etc. It’s a powerful way for manufacturers to educate and engage consumers directly at the point of purchase.
From a label printing perspective, QR codes are pretty straightforward. The code can be created (for free) online and then the actual image of the barcode can be embedded right into the customer’s artwork. Many of our customers are now using QR codes and we expect usage will continue to grow for the foreseeable future.
